Executive Director, Linda Conley, is set to retire

The Board of Directors, along with the staff and students, of Prince Edward Learning Centre wish Linda Conley, retiring Executive Director, the best of what retirement has to offer.

Linda has worked tirelessly since 1995, towards her passionate pursuit of a more literate Prince Edward County. Hundreds (more likely thousands) of County residents have sat at her desk and received her empathetic assistance. She will be missed.

Please join us as we celebrate all her accomplishments and wish her well in this next chapter of her life.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Gillian, Joe, & Lori made a wonderful carrot soup and we had different kinds of breads. We had pop to drink and for dessert we had cupcakes, squares, and mini-tarts. There were 10 of us. The food was wonderful. We need to do that more often!

Inspirational Women of the County Luncheon

by Angela H, PELC Student

I attended the Inspirational Women of the County Luncheon on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Waring House Hall. The food was excellent.

Elizabeth Manley was the guest speaker. I remember Elizabeth when she was in the Nationals skating competition and the Olympics. It was like yesterday. I have never forgotten.

Elizabeth had depression and mental illness that caused her to almost give up her dream, but two coaches didn’t give up on Elizabeth. She didn’t want to give up on her country. Elizabeth Manley is a very courageous young lady.

Elizabeth went on to win gold in figure skating at the 1988 Olympics. I have always believed in Elizabeth. I have grown up watching Elizabeth when she was skating.

Elizabeth Manley and Friends will be at Scotia Bank Place in Ottawa on January 26, 2013. Doors open at 6:00 pm show starts at 7:00 pm. Tickets are on sale.

Awards were presented at the luncheon to the winners of the International Women of the County.

The winner was Nancy Parks, the Executive Director of Hospice Prince Edward. Nancy Parks also worked for years at the Children’s Aid Society.

The second place winner was Lori Foster. Lori owns The Dressing Room Boutique and also raises money for breast cancer.

The third place winner was Georgette Fry. She is the choir director of Shout Sister Choir, a choir made up of everyday women who love to sing.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!
